Tristan Egolf

Tristan Egolf ( born December 19, 1971 in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Spain; † 7 May 2005 Lancaster, Pennsylvania ) was an American writer and musician.

Life

Tristan was born in Spain, as his father worked there as a journalist. But He grew up in Washington, DC, Louisville, and Lancaster. His parents divorced during his youth. His mother remarried and his stepfather adopted him. Tristan then also took over the family name of the stepfather. He broke the College from and traveled the country and lived from odd jobs. Previously, the authors had played in punk bands. Most recently, he was the frontman of Doomed to Obscurity. In addition, Tristan Egolf worked as a political activist; he demonstrated against U.S. President George W. Bush. In Pennsylvania, he was also known as leader of the political group The Smoketown Six.

In 1998 he published his first novel, Lord of the Barnyard at the French publisher Gallimard, since the manuscript was rejected by U.S. publishers. Gallimard had recognized the potential of the book right, because it was praised by the critics and was also released in the U.S. later. 2001 followed Skirt and the Fiddle, the Egolfs reputation strengthened as young talent the U.S. literature, even if the commercial success of the debut was not repeated. From his third novel grain Wolf the first three chapters have already appeared on the Internet. According to press reports, he is said to have been working on a rock opera last.

Tristan Egolf lived in Indiana and finally in New York (State). On May 7, 2005 Egolf committed suicide after months of depression.
