trivago

Trivago is a travel information portal, which is connected via a meta-search to around 140 different booking systems such as Expedia, Booking.com, otel.com, olotels.com or Opodo and should thus compare the offers of various hotels. Some 600,000 hotels can be found through this website. A community expanded the search results with my own experience reports, photos or other information. In December 2012, trivago has acquired a majority of Expedia.

Trivago hotel metasearch engine was the first in Germany and one of Europe 18 million visitors per month.

On the basis of the agreed by Expedia in December 2012 acquisition price of EUR 477 million for 61.6 percent of the shares to a rating of 774 million euros for the company is calculated.

History

One and a half years has been programmed in a beta version, which was completed at the beginning of 2005.

Another six months, the new platform has been tested. In June 2005 the trivago GmbH was founded and made the first time, the full -featured online.

In December 2012, Expedia announced the completion of a contract for the acquisition of a majority interest trivago. For 61.6 percent of the shares, a total of 477 million euros to be paid. The acquisition is subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities.

Internationally

Parallel to the German side there since 2006 trivago also in the United Kingdom and the year in Spain and France.

2007, a Swedish version was available online and in August was followed by a further localization in Poland as the seventh country page.

Community

The page will helps to shape a community. At the beginning of the beta phase about 25-30 members were instrumental in having the management to the creation of the page. It countries were categorized and hotels and attractions created. Were complemented collected geo-data, Web links, images and reviews.

As part of the internationalization of over one hundred thousand members today Trivago on all country sites registered. Here, some of the tasks in the community are reimbursed. Trivago provides a fixed amount per month is available, which is paid at period end to the members.
