Trockau

Trockau is a district of the town Pegnitz on the eastern slopes of the Franconian Switzerland, situated at an altitude of 485 m above sea level. NN and has 560 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2002). The nearest major town, Bayreuth, located about 15 km north of Trockau. At the time of independence the community Trockau was a market.

History

The Trockau castle came in 1273, first documented in appearance. Owner of the castle is the family of United Trockau. The castle was destroyed since the mid-15th century, several times. In the castle grounds, the Trockau castle was built from 1769 to 1779.

On 1 May 1978, until then an independent market was incorporated into the city Pegnitz.

Trockau is just off the Federal Highway 9 (Munich - Berlin), one of the busiest motorways in Europe. As part of the expansion of the highway to six lanes the Viaduct Trockau in 2002 it was opened to traffic.

Attractions

  • The Trockau castle, was built in its present form from 1769 to 1779. The mounted to a fortified tower of the former castle Trockau chapel was to build the church in 1950 and the chapel for the population of the place. The castle site is privately owned by the Great of Trockau family and can not be visited.
  • The Church of Trockau was built by the residents Trockaus 1950 and is dedicated to St. Thomas Aquinas. In 2010 it was raised to 38 highway Church in Germany.
