Trocmi

The Trocmi ( gr Trokmoi, lat Trocmi ) were one of the three Celtic tribes in Asia Minor, who were among the Galatians. The other two tribes were the Tolistobogier (also Tolistoagier ) and the Tectosages.

History

279/78 BC attracted Trocmi under Lutarios during the Celtic Südwanderung together with Tolistobogiern and Tectosages through Thrace. Their goal was the region around Byzantion ( Byzantium, Constantine Opel ), where the Celts settled for the time being. 275 BC, they were brought by Nicomedes I. as mercenaries to Bithynia to support him there in the fight against his brother Zipoites and to secure to him the throne. Soon they became independent and went plundering through the country, including them fell Didyma near Miletus to the victim. In the so-called ' elephant battle' 275, 268 or 267 BC, the Galatians were beaten by Antiochus I. and received residential areas on both sides of the Halys assigned. The Trocmi inhabited the area around Tavium. 189 BC they were together with the Tectosages and other allies of Antiochus III Seleukidenkönigs. on the mountain Magaba crushing defeat by the Roman consul Gnaeus Manlius Vulso.

Tribal classification

The Trocmi divided into four sub-divisions ( tetrarchies ) under the leadership of a tetrarch. Together with the tetrarchies the well structured Tolistobogier and Tectosages they formed the Koinon Galáton ( "Gala Phonetic covenant", later called Galatia ), which was also conducted in addition to the twelve Tetrarch of a council of 300 men. Meeting was the Drunemeton who does not exactly localizable " Sacred Grove ". From this meeting a judge ( Dikastes ) and a commander were determined with two sub- generals.

These twelve Tetrarch were later replaced by three rulers. So ruled the 65/64 BC recognized by Pompey Brogitaros alone on the Trocmi until finally the father, the Tolistobogier Deiotaros Philorhomaios ( " Deiotaros Roman friend "), a de facto monopoly rule of a king over all the Galatians was born.
