Troisdorf–Mülheim-Speldorf railway

The railway line Troisdorf- Mülheim- Speldorf is the main axis of freight transport between Cologne and the Ruhr and the Netherlands. It combines the marshalling yards of Duisburg- Wedau (formerly important, now closed and demolition ) and Gremberg ( in Cologne).

The line was opened on 18 November 1874 by the Rhenish Railway Company as connecting the Ruhr track, right- Rhine route in operation. It is parallel to thirty years older railway line between Cologne and Duisburg of competing Cologne -Minden Railway Company, of which they should pull traffic in a few kilometers distance. As the route leads past the settlement cores, the passenger was soon after the nationalization of both companies set sections. Except for a few short sections of the route is now used exclusively for the carriage of goods.

Passenger

Passenger was on the track in the postwar period only on the portions of Mülheim- Speldorf - Dusseldorf -Rath ( KBS 307, further from Düsseldorf Central Station ) handled and Hilden -Opladen ( KBS 409). On December 6, 1971, the passenger traffic between Duisburg and Mülheim - Wedau - Speldorf was set on September 23, followed in 1983, the closure of Duisburg Ducks catch up to the station Dusseldorf -Rath. Since then travels the only regional train line 37 The Wedauer of Duisburg Hauptbahnhof Duisburg Ducks catch. Between Duisburg- Wedau and Lintorf the route is also used by museum trains as access to the Anger rollercoaster. Passenger on September 23, 1983 set - was on the section Opladen - Hilden - as in the KBS 307. The passengers were taken mostly on battery power car series 515 on both sections in the postwar period, but also local trains with the series 140, 212 and 430 were to be found. Reactivation of public transport will be discussed again and again, in 2010 but almost impossible.

In case of faults on the railroad tracks Cologne -Duisburg and Gruiten - Köln-Deutz passenger trains between Duisburg and Dusseldorf, as well as between Dusseldorf and Wuppertal / Opladen and Cologne are occasionally diverted over the train track Troisdorf- Mülheim- Speldorf. Here, the passenger station Köln- Mülheim can not be approached.
