Trolleybuses in Bern

The trolleybus Bern is the trolleybus system of the Swiss Federal City of Bern. It is operated by the transport undertaking urban transit Bern, abbreviated SVB, which occurs mostly under the marketing name Bernmobil since 2000. This also operates the existing tram Bern since 1890 and a large part of the recorded 1924 urban bus and coach transport. The trolley went into operation in 1940 and today consists of three lines with a cumulative length of 21.7 kilometers, serving a total of 35 stops. Like the other transport in the region is also integrated the Berne Trolleybus in the tariff association Bern -Solothurn.

Lines

Due to lack of turning area in the Wyleregg the trains running on school days Amplifier courses of the line 20 must be driven with gas and diesel buses.

History

On 2 and 3 December 1939, the City of Berne voters to become the third urban transport trolleybus. This took on 29 October 1940 operating on the line S - which was later renamed in line 12 - between the bear pit and Schosshalde on and once served only as a tram feeder. Responsibility was initially the Municipal Tramway Bern ( SSB), while for the bus service to society urban bus Bern ( SOB) was responsible. Only at September 1, 1947, the two companies merged to form the Municipal Transport Company of Bern.

On January 22, 1941, henceforth 4:22 -mile trolleybus line 12 took over finally also the section of the Bern railway - bear pit of the tram line 8 changed due to lack of fuel was on 5 July 1941, the 3.7 km long road bus route to Bümplizstrasse on trolleybus.   • Line 13 Bern Bahnhof- Bümplizstrasse underpass Bümplizstrasse on July 28, 1975

The lines 13 and 14 are also extended in the course of electrification. Additionally followed on 18 May 1977, the line 11 from the freight station after Brückfeld. This in turn was extended to the new park and ride car park Neufeld on 5 May 1992 by almost half a kilometer.

The most recent network expansion was carried out on 20 June 2005 extension of line 12 to approximately 650 meters from the Schosshalde to the Zentrum Paul Klee. Already on July 1, the same year as the trolley bus shrunk again apparent when the lines 13 and 14 were temporarily changed during the Tram Bern West project on bus operation before 2010, the tram took over the operation of these two western branch branches.

Current inventory

The trolleybus Bern stand together 20 cars available, including exclusively designated low floor articulated trams of type BGT -N2 with an electric equipment of Kiepe, as Swisstrolley 2. They were procured in two batches of delivery:

  • Car 1-08: 1997/1998
  • Cart 9 to 20: 1999/2000

Former stock

(1) = 30 car was ahead of its commissioning in Bern demonstration of Swiss industry and drove as a demonstration vehicle at home and abroad, such as in Vancouver. After a heater burnout he burned down in 1976 but was rebuilt in our own workshop again in 1977. Later cars perverse 55 as a demonstration vehicle also comes in Solingen and Arnhem.

Whereabouts

The eleven cars with the numbers 33, 34, 46, 53, 54 and 56 to 61 were delivered in 2006 to the Romanian town of Braşov, where they are still in use. The former carriage 13, 28 and 59 are in the custody of the Tram Club Bern (TVB ), the trolley 38 is owned by the Trolleybusvereins Switzerland ( TVS ). 55 cars reached the trolleybus museum Solingen eV and is operative only one of the five conserved for museum purposes Bernese trolleybuses.
