Trolleybuses in Coimbra

The trolleybus Coimbra is the oldest and only today trolleybus operation in Portugal. The operating company is smtuc the Municipalizados Serviços de Transportes Urbanos de Coimbra, abbreviated.

The operation in Coimbra was opened on 16 August 1947, initially only two cars of the type Saurer. By 1959, this was the only trolleybus system in Portugal, since 1997, of the suspension of operations in Porto again this is the case. Today circulate in Coimbra on three lines 17 solo trolleybuses of the type Caetano Efacec, they were built in the years 1984 to 1986. A renewal of the vehicle fleet is intended, but so far only a single Solaris Trollino 12 was purchased.
