Trolleybuses in Tehran

The trolleybus Tehran is the only trolleybus operation in Iran. The plant in the capital Tehran went into operation in 1992 and today includes two of five lines once. In addition to the subway opened in 1999 Tehran trolleybus is the only track-bound transport means of the city. It is operated by the United Bus Company of Tehran, short UBCT, which is also responsible for the rest of the city bus service.

History

Among other environmental reasons decided the Tehran City Council at the beginning of the 1990s, in parallel with the construction of the subway, the establishment of a Oberleitungsbusbetriebs. The end of 1990, a contract was signed for this purpose with several partners from the former Czechoslovakia. This includes both, the creation of infrastructure including overhead line equipment, substations and workshops as well as the supply of Škoda vehicles. This Agreement also results in higher than usual driving voltage of 750 volts DC, as they opened systems in Banská Bystrica and České Budějovice was applied also in 1989 or 1991. A few years earlier helped Czechoslovak experts already in the building of former trolleybus Kabul in neighboring Afghanistan, this existed from 1979 to 1992 /93.

The construction work for the now re- decommissioned first Tehran Obusstrecke began in August 1991. This was 6.9 km long and ran from the central square Emam Hossein in a northeasterly direction through the arterial road Damavand the last stop terminal -e -Sharq. She went on 14 September 1992 operation and was served by lines 1 and 2. The latter was there an express line which is the same route as the line sailed one, but fewer intermediate stops served. In order to overtake the courses of the line 1, she had a special feature its own centrally disposed drive line pair. The northeast route ran through a structurally separated bus lanes in the middle of road. In early 2011 we integrated these into the Streckenast opened in 2008, and with diesel buses operated local bus rapid transit system. To this end, the stops were centrally located platforms No. for both directions, the BRT buses have for this purpose the left side doors. The overhead lines have been removed.

The later opened and operated until today second subnet in the south is also made from Emam Hossein. A 5.7 km long route leads from there south through the street Hefdah -e Shahrivar on the Meydan -e- Khorasan to Bozorgrah -e- Be'sat. This route is served by the line 4 and is also fitted to the junction to the depot with an additional overhead line pair. Unlike in the former East route but the trolleybuses share on the southern road network space to the private transport. The previously operated line 3 between Emam Hossein and the Meydan -e- Khorasan is no longer offered. She was also an express line and used the central catenary.

A side branch of the southern part of the network branches off circa 500 meters south of the Meydan -e- Khorasan from westward and led initially 1.3 km far to the Meydan -e- Shoosh. March 13, 2010, this route was eventually to 3.2 km via metro station Shoosh to Meydan -e- Rah Ahan - extended - the forecourt of the station of the Iranian State Railways. The side branch is served by the line 5, which also begins at Emam Hossein.

Depots and vehicles

The northeastern Streckenast stood its own private storage available, it was located within the terminal loop terminal -e -Sharq and also housed the main workshop. The remaining deposit for two southern route branches located several hundred meters from the terminal Bozorgrah -e- Be'sat line 4

For use almost exclusively joint type cars Škoda 15Tr. They stem from an original comprehensive 65 vehicles series, which in 1991 ( car numbers 794-828 ) and 1992 ( car numbers 921-950 ) were imported. Furthermore, there is a built around 2005 in Iran prototype of a solo car, it is based on the type Volvo B10M.

The cars are to be found in two different finishes. The green-yellow- white-painted, including the only two-axle, were originally housed in the abandoned northern depot and were the former lines 1 and 2 reserved. The paint scheme corresponds exactly to that in České Budějovice, which takes its Oberleitungsbusbetrieb recorded a year before Tehran and was also equipped by Škoda.

The vehicles previously used only on lines 3, 4 and 5 carry a blue - white livery and were asked by the Southern Depot. Today on the remaining lines 4 and 5 operate trolleybuses both color schemes together are still 63 cars available.
