Trolli

The Trolli GmbH (formerly Mederer Süßwarenvertriebs GmbH ) is a German manufacturer of confectionery.

History

In 1948, company founder Willy Mederer began with the production of noodles. As short time later, the sugar rationing was lifted, the company switched to the manufacture of confectionery. In the 60s cream cones, coconut products, banana jelly, peppermint rear Ante and jellies were added, which were sold under the brand name Wilmed who stood for Willy Mederer. At that time, the company employed about 150 people.

In 1975, a new fruit gum initially under the brand name Trolli the bear and from 1980 under the name Trolli, similar to the northern trolls who were kid-friendly forest creatures developed that also conquered the U.S. confectionery market quickly.

In 1984, Herbert Mederer took over the management of his late father and company founder Willy Mederer. He left in 1986 Trolli expand into the U.S. and set up a production plant in Creston (Iowa), which was sold in 1997.

In 1994 we expanded to Spain and founded the Spanish branch in Valencia. In the same year another production facility in Jakarta was opened in Indonesia.

In 1995, the Czech branch in Pilsen was founded as packaging and packing plant.

In 1998, the confectionery company acquired Efruti was integrated into the company. Two years later, the Gummi Bear Factory mark is accepted with production in Boizenburg and Hagenow.

In 2001 we expanded into China and opened under a joint venture in Guangzhou, a further production facility that you completely took over in 2004.

2007, it continued to expand at the site Hagenow and opened a new high-bay warehouse, which claims to be one of the most modern in Europe there.

In 2011, they founded after the completed in 1997 selling Mederer USA again a U.S. subsidiary based in Chicago with a sales office and a warehouse. A year later the Mederer Süßwarenvertriebs GmbH was renamed Trolli GmbH.

On October 20, 2011 Trolli announced its intention to close its production site in Fürth and to shift production to the end of 2012 all the way to Hagenow. For this, the production capacity will be increased at this location. As a result, 170 jobs will be deleted. This measure provided for demonstrations on March 24, 2012 before the Trolli factory premises.

Locations and Staff

Trolli employs approximately 1,790 people at seven locations in Germany, Spain, Czech Republic and China. In addition to its headquarters in Fürth Mederer is represented by works in Hagenow, Boizenburg and nine vorm Wald.

Sponsoring

Since 1 July 2010, the company is a sponsor of the football club SpVgg Greuther Fürth and new title sponsor of the football stadium in Fürth.

The range includes fruit gum, chewy candy and licorice; the main brands Trolli, Efruti comprise about 80 products.
