Tromp castle is a place in South Africa's Free State Province. It is the administrative center of the municipality in the district Kopanong Xhariep.

Geography

Tromp Castle is a rural village close to the N1 National Road. In 2011, he had 5,338 inhabitants. To place a part of the former township of Madikgetla and Nordmanville.

History

The town was founded in 1891 on the farm Middelwater of Jan and Bastiaan Tromp. In 1902 he received municipality status. At first he was called Jagersfontein Road to the nearby village of Jagersfontein, then Hamilton to Sir Hamilton Gold -Adams, Governor of the Orange River Colony from 1907 to 1910; he finally received its present name.

Economy and Transport

Main industry is agriculture, especially the attitude of Merino sheep.

Tromp castle is close to the N1, which connects among other things, Johannesburg and Cape Town. The R704 regional road leads north- westwards over Fauresmith after Koffiefontein, the R717 in a southwesterly direction Philippolis and Colesberg. The Tromp 's train station is located a few kilometers west of the town on the railway line Bloemfontein Springfontein which runs approximately parallel to the N1. The station serves the freight. Passenger trains from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth and East London driving through there.
