The Tröndelsee is a lake in the city of Kiel, which was put together with its surroundings in 1983 as the first area of ​​the town under protection.

The lake is surrounded by wet meadows, alder and some pastures that are grazed to maintain the landscape of Robust cattle.

The natural silting process of Tröndelsees took in the last century by nutrient inputs greatly since long time raw sewage were initiated. Today consist of the original water surface two thirds, so that the lake has a size of only 24 hectares now.

Ecology

The lake is a habitat for many water birds such as water rails, grebes and red-necked grebe and heron and teal. The adjacent wetlands are home to many small harrows species and orchids.
