Troškūnai

Troskunai ( listen? / I ) is a small town in Lithuania. It has the status of a municipal office ( miesto seniūnija ) in the Rajongemeinde anykščiai. The city is located 14 km west of anykščiai.

Troskunai is the second smallest city in Lithuania, the smallest is Panemunė ( About Memel ) in the self-governing community Pagėgiai ( Pogegen ).

History

The city was founded in 1696 by Władysław Sokolowski, the St. Bernard called at that time in the city, who built there a church and a convent. After a major fire, the numerous wooden buildings fell victim to the place in 1770 rebuilt with stone buildings.

Troskunai is the birthplace of Lithuanian author and lexicographer Konstantinas Sirvydas.
