Trou de Fer

The Trou de Fer is a about 250 meters deep, cauldron-like gorge on the island of Réunion. This island is an overseas department of France and is located 800 km east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The name of this geological feature ( German: Iron holes) but is probably a faulty linguistic tradition and was originally Trou d' enfer (about hell hole ), as there is no iron-containing rocks still evidence of ore smelting ( melting ) in the area.

The Trou de Fer is located on a mountain slope in the northeast of the island. The interior is not accessible. About hiking trails, a viewing platform at the southern edge of the valley is reached, the view into the depth, however, is often clouded by fog and clouds. Opened up to tourists, it is also in flights with helicopters and ultralights.

The six different sites over several hundred meters cascading waterfalls create a very loud roar.
