Trubetskoy family

Trubetskoy (Russian Трубецкой, female Trubezkaja / Трубецкая, plural Trubezkije / Трубецкие ) is an old Russian princely family, which is one of the Gediminiden. In the era of feudal fragmentation of Russia they were the masters of a principality with the center in Trubchevsk, then known as Trubezk. The house Trubetskoy brought over the centuries produced many important generals, diplomats, philosophers and artists. A side branch of the Trubetskoy sat in Poland - Lithuania continued (under the name Trubecki ). After the Russian October Revolution, the most representative of the house Trubetskoy went into exile (French Troubetzkoy, English Troubetskoy ).
