Trúc Lâm

The Bamboo Forest School of the Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhism goes to the teacher Lieu Quan back ( the ascetic of the bamboo forest ). He came back in 1295 as King Anh Tong part of the Vietnamese Viet kingdom in order to devote his life to the practice and teaching of the Buddha. He received his monastic name Lieu Quan in his monk's ordination on Mount Yen Tu, where later a major temple complex was built.

From 1304 on he taught Buddhism in Vietnam.

His main disciple was Phap Loa, the second patriarch of the bamboo forest school. He taught beginning of the 14th century, the " exposition of the great wisdom " and published the first meditation manual in Viet.

The temple Bao An was at the behest of the king 1313 the main center of Buddhism in Viet and the Buddhist canon Chu- Som was printed in the Viet language.
