Trumpet voluntary

Voluntary ( v. engl. "Spontaneously" ) refers to a piece of music (usually for organ), which was improvised or a composition of improvisatory character. The Voluntary comes from the English Baroque and is comparable to the original function with the Prelude. Therefore, the Voluntary is not bound to a particular compositional form.

The Trumpet Voluntary derived from the same organ stops. Although initially the solo organ register was meant today also performances with real trumpets are common.
