Features

The cylindrical housing of beaded cylinder whorl snail is 1.7 to 2 mm high and 0.9 mm wide ( 1.6 to 1.95 × 0.5-0.6 mm: Welter - Schultes ). It comprises 5 ½ to 6 ½ rounded turns which are offset from each other by a deep weld. The last whorl is slightly flattened on the outer edge, the last whorl is thus carried in comfort. The muzzle is pointed ovate, laterally and somewhat flattened above. Overall, the mouth in the frontal view is somewhat wider than high. The wide aperture rim is heavily lipped thickened and colored white.

The casing is light yellow -brown, the surface is ornamented with very regular, sharp ribs. The spaces between the ribs as wide as the rib itself.

Similar Species

The case of beaded cylinder whorl snail is similar to the cases of the cylinder 's whorl snail ( Truncatellina cylindrica ) and the Southern cylinder whorl snail ( Truncatellina callicratis ). The case of the Southern cylinder whorl snail is much slimmer, which the cylinder 's whorl snail has a wider whorl. Both species also differ by the denser, and less pronounced ribbing. The mouth is in the beaded cylindrical worm wider than high. The aperture rim is conspicuously wide lipped thickened and colored white.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The range of the species extends across Central and Eastern Europe (up in the Ulyanovsk Region, Russia and Ukraine). The deposits, however, are very scattered. In the north it extends to Denmark and southern Sweden ( Skåne, Öland, Gotland ), in the southeast to Bulgaria, Romania and the Caucasus.

The species prefers dry habitats, such as poor grassland, sand dunes, sparse forests and roadsides.

Taxonomy

The taxon was described in 1823 by Nilsson as Pupa costulata first time. The Fauna Europaea lists not synonyms.

Endangering

The species is regarded in Germany as endangered.
