Truro School

Truro School is a private school in the city of Truro in Cornwall, England. The Methodist School was founded in 1880 under the name " Middle Class Truro College for Boys." Since 1990 she has also been approved for girls.

In the current 2006-2007 school year, 810 students attend the school.

The current Headmaster of Truro School is called Paul Smith.

To be allowed to attend school, the student must pass an entrance exam.

The current school fees ( from September 2006 ) amounted to £ 5,753 for boarders (English: " Boarders " ), and £ 2,950 for external students (English: " Day Pupils ").

The site and facilities

Truro School is built on a hill above the town of Truro. On the premises are located, among other things, a school chapel, the school's own theater, an indoor heated swimming pool, two gymnasiums, a running track, sports fields, tennis and squash facilities.

Classes and in-house system

The school still uses the traditional English method of counting for school years: There are the lower classes 1 to 5 and the sixth-form, which results from the Lower Sixth ( " lower sixth-form " ) and the Upper Sixth ( " upper sixth-form " ) composed. This corresponds to grades 7 to 13 in modern public schools in England and the grades 6 through 12 in Germany.

Each student will ( as usual in schools in England ) grouped into a "house". These "houses " are used among other things for sports competitions, which are held between the houses. Pupils attending Truro School, come in one of four houses:

  • Wickett ( red),
  • Vinter ( gold color )
  • School ( green) and
  • Smith (color blue).

Boarding life

Although the great majority of students outside directors, the school has four residential buildings for students:

  • Trennick - older boys, grades 4 to Upper Sixth
  • Poltisco - younger boys, classes 1-3
  • Pentreve - younger girls, classes 1 to 5
  • Malvern - older girls Sixth Form

In March 2007, there were about 95 boarders, of which a quarter were not British. The majority of foreign students form Chinese from Hong Kong. Moreover, in the Spring 2007 trimester also visited 11 German students, the school, including 10 boarders, in the fall trimester of 2007 were at least another 7 German boarders and students.

Since September 2007, there are only three residential buildings, as Trennick and Poltisco were merged:
