Trusted Computing Platform Alliance

The Trusted Computing Platform Alliance ( TCPA ) was a consortium founded by Microsoft, IBM, Hewlett -Packard and Compaq in 1999. Among its members were about 200 companies in the hardware and software. In April 2003, the TCPA went on in the successor organization Trusted Computing Group ( TCG).

The resulting realized properties can also be used for digital rights management, but this is seen by the TCPA members only as a by- product of the specification.

History

Because of the veto right of all 200 members of the TCPA was found to be not functioning. As a consequence, the official successor to Trusted Computing Group ( TCG) was established in April 2003, which took over the specifications previously created and its development continues.

The TCPA was highly controversial since its inception. While supporters questioned the associated risk of increased security in the foreground, accused critics that TCPA would be used mainly for user control and monopolization.

During the life of the TCPA (1999-2003) did not succeed in that operating system vendors like Microsoft to develop an operating system on anabolic done. The standardization activities of the TCPA be continued with a revised statutes of the successor organization, Trusted Computing Group ( TCG).
