Truth and reconciliation commission

Truth commissions have been convened around the 1990s in some states as a result of armed conflict or after the end of human infringing regime. Its mandate was to identify in political criminal matters. Among them are especially South American and African countries.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which until 1998 was active in South Africa in 1996, serves as a model for most subsequent truth commissions.
