Truus van Aalten

Truus van Aalten ( born August 2, 1910 in Arnhem, † 27 June 1999 Warmond; civil Geertruida Everdina Wilhelmina van Aalten ) was a Dutch actress. She was in the 1920s and 1930s one of the most popular actresses of the German film.

Life

Van Aalten was born as the daughter of a druggist. After leaving school she worked as a milliner and later started at the fashion store Peek & Cloppenburg in Amsterdam training as a seller.

As the winner of an international competition of the Berlin UFA, which had to occupy seven young female roles for the feature film The Seven Daughters of woman Gyurkovics, van Aalten 1926 came to Berlin. After completion of filming, she decided to stay in the German capital and received by the UFA one and a half year contract.

Career

Thanks to her comedic talent van Aalten quickly became a favorite of the audience. The transition from silent films to talkies she succeeded despite their foreign origin. Only with the assumption of power by the National Socialists, it was difficult to get commitment for them. In addition, they slowly outgrew the role of the comical girl. 1934 originated in Austria, directed by Georg Jacoby feature film Tales from the Vienna Woods. In the same year she starred in her home country, the main role in the film Het meisje met the Blauwen hoed, their only role in their native language. More role offers did not materialize. It was only during a holiday with friends in Berlin, she was offered a real man a small role in Peter Fritz book. This was her last film.

In the fall of 1940, van Aalten returned to the German-occupied Netherlands. After the war, she tried to continue her film career in their home country and in neighboring Britain, but without success. As a result, she founded in 1954 in Voorhout a successful company for the import and export of souvenir items. Ten years later they married.

Truus van Aalten died on 27 June 1999 at the age of 88 years in a psychiatric hospital in Warmond, where she had spent the last two years of her life in mental derangement.
