Tryon County (North Carolina)

Tryon County was a county in the British colony (later U.S. state ) North Carolina.

It originated from a part of Mecklenburg County west of the Catawba River by a law which came into force on April 10, 1769. Tryon County was named for William Tryon, who from 1765 to 1771 Governor of North Carolina was. 1779 Tryon County was divided into Lincoln County and Rutherford County so I stopped after only 10 years to exist.

Tryon County played a significant role in the American War of Independence. Inhabitants of the county were organized in Sicherheitskommittes and later in a militia, to prepare for the battles of Lexington in Massachusetts. On August 14, 1775 49 residents gathered at the County Courthouse and adopted a complaint against the British, which became known as the Tryon Resolves. They were among the first settlers who did this.
