Tsarevich

Tsarevich (Russian Царевич, " Tsarevich ", " Emperor's son ") was the title of nobility of the male descendants of the Russian Tsar. He has been since the adoption of the Czar title by Ivan the Terrible in 1547 to the abdication of Kaiser Nicholas II used 1917.

With the death of the conspiracy against his father, Peter the Great imprisoned Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich and heir to the throne in 1718, this title was temporarily out of use. Male descendants or relatives of the emperor or the empress were instead in the 18th century with the title " Grand Duke " ( Veliky Knyaz ) refers.

Younger male relatives of the tsar dynasty wore the other hand, since the 18th century continue the title of " Grand Duke ". Emperor Alexander III.
