Tsegaye Gabre-Medhin

Tsegaye Gabre - Medhin, also Gebre - Medhin ( äthiop. ጸጋዬ ገብረ መድህን; born August 17, 1936 in Boda in Ambo, Ethiopia, † 25 February 2006 in Manhattan, New York, NY) was an Ethiopian writer.

He was a poet, playwright, essayist and artist. His native language was Oromifa. In the forties, he published several poems, plays, essays and lyrics. He wrote in Amharic. His countrymen compared him to Shakespeare. He translated some works of this very, Brecht and Molière in Amharic.

Since 1998 he has been treated in New York because of a kidney ailment.
