TSF (radio station)

TSF is a private radio station in Portugal. It has its seat in Lisbon, and maintains regional offices postage, Alentejo, Algarve, Madeira and the Azores.

History

It was founded in 1989 initially as a TSF Rádio Jornal, then as TSF Rádio Notícias by some Radiojornalisten in the form of a cooperative, which among other companies, the newspaper O Jornal ( a journalist publishing group ) was 34% member. The name TSF was chosen in homage to the first designation of radio in Portugal, Telefonia Sem Fio (English as: " wireless telephone ", in reference to the early English radio wireless telegraphy name ). The first mission as TSF was broadcast on 29 February 1988, but it had been sent illegally, since private radio stations in Portugal were not permitted at the time.

After a severe financial crisis of the station in 1994 20 employees were laid off, and the Lusomundo, the media arm of Portugal Telecom, acquired a majority stake in the now operating as a Portuguese corporation Rádio Notícias, Produções e Publicidade, SA. 22 % remained with the original cooperative members. After restructuring in 1996 and the privatization of Portugal Telecom Lusomundo emerged as an independent media group that sees its Lusomundo Serviços division sold to Controlinveste Media Group 2005. At that therefore part of Rádio Notícias and its brand TSF.

Program

The station is known for its news and information formats. So TSF was among the first foreign media, who reported in 1990 from the liberated Kuwait. But he also sends music, literature and other cultural programs, such as cabaret programs and occasional radio concerts of Fadosängern or jazz musicians.
