Tshopo District

Tshopo is a district of Orientale Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Tshopo should be collected by the never implemented administrative reform to a province. Tshopos capital is the city of Kisangani, the population of the whole area was in 2006 2.614.630 inhabitants.

The province is located north-east of the same river Tshopo, after which the area was named.

History

Under the new constitution of 2005, the administrative structure of the Democratic Republic of Congo should fundamentally changed and the state to decentralize it. Planned thereby the number of provinces was from eleven to increase to 26 and give them greater political influence.

The Province Orientale should be dissolved and replaced by four new provinces, including Tshopo. In January 2011, this reform but has been revised and so Tshopo remains an Oriental subordinate district.
