Tsuruga, Fukui
Tsuruga (Japanese敦 贺 市, -shi ) is a city in Fukui Prefecture in Japan.
Geography
Tsuruga is located south of Fukui and north of Kyoto on the Wakasa Bay.
History
The appointment to Shi took place on April 1, 1937 with the merger of Chō Tsuruga (敦 贺 町, -chō ) and the Mura Matsubara (松原 村, -mura ) in Tsuruga -gun (敦 贺 郡).
Attractions
Worth seeing is the Shinto shrine Kehi - jingū (气 比 神宫).
In Tsuruga there are about 20 bronze statues of characters and scenes from famous 1970s anime series Uchū Senkan Yamato and Galaxy Express 999 creator Leiji Matsumoto Although their was born somewhere else, they were built here as part of an exhibition of his work in 1999.
In Tsuruga located in the district Myojincho also the nuclear power plant Tsuruga, from the repeated radioactivity has leaked, and the disused ATR prototype joints and in the district of the breeder reactor Monju Shiraki.
