TT33 (tomb)

The grave TT33 ( Theban Tomb 33 engl. = Theban grave No. 33) is located in the necropolis of al - Asasif in Western Thebes in Egypt. It was built by the Prophet and first reader Pedamenopet during the reign of Pharaoh Psammetichus I ( 26th Dynasty ).

Research

In the 19th century, the grave was discovered. John Dümichen had examined it and planned to publish his research in seven volumes. However, he died in 1894 shortly after the publication of Volume 3. The investigations were therefore canceled and closed the grave. It was only on December 7, 2005, it has been re-opened and taken from Strasbourg Egyptologists inspected.

Description

This grave is located near the tombs of the Pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings, but it surpasses all both in size as well as in the design. The input two atria are preceded with pylons. Its total length is about 100 meters and the 22 rooms are spread over three floors up to 20 feet below ground.

The walls are decorated with scenes from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. It is therefore the grave with the broadest representation from the Book of the Dead. The sky maps used in the grave could be assigned to the Dean C lists.

Controversy surrounding the dating

Near the entrance there is an inscription was discovered which mentions the Pharaoh Horemheb. For this reason, some researchers had suspected that the grave is dated to the 18th or 19th Dynasty.
