TT71

TT71 ( Theban Tomb 71 - Thebes, grave 71) is as grave chapel, part of the two-part tomb of Senmut steward and officials who played a special role under the Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut. From the grave type the grave chapel corresponding to those of the Middle Kingdom.

Description

The grave chapel is located in the Theban necropolis, the Sheikh Abd el- Qurna said part. It has a T- shaped plan and is one of the largest facilities of its kind in the front, a long cross hall with eight columns and different niches. The rear part is a long tube, which terminates in a further recess.

Here was the place of worship of the grave system. The grave is now badly damaged. Much of the former painting is completely gone. Noteworthy is the representation of Cretan tribute charms, which is the earliest of its kind in Egypt. Here also found a false door, the Senmut and his parents shows.

This grave has no grave chamber. The grave chamber of the Senmut was found elsewhere ( TT353 ), so that it was at TT71 to a worship place where the cult of the dead for the officer and his family could take place. Interestingly, the parents of the Senmut are also shown in TT71 and had her grave without its own superstructure very close. The motif of the "parent representation " is based on the same designs in tombs of the Middle Kingdom.
