Tu'i Malila
Tu'i Malila ( * before 1778, † May 19, 1965 ) was the name of a turtle that was allegedly given by Captain James Cook, the royal family of Tonga. These were a radiated tortoise ( Astrochelys radiata) from Madagascar.
The exact year of the alleged handover is unknown, it was either 1773 or 1777. The animal lived in the royal family until his natural death on 19 May 1965 Tui Malila was equivalent to at least 188 or 192 years old. It was thus considered the oldest of all turtles and at the same time all vertebrates, to 2006, the age of the Indian giant tortoise Adwaita was announced which had reached a far greater age with probably 255 years.
