Tubocurarine is a neurotoxin. As a main component of Tubocurare it is one of the arrow poisons, which are collectively referred to as curare.
Operation
Tubocurarine competitively occupied the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the postsynaptic membrane. There is a blockage of ligand-gated sodium ion channels, with no depolarization is triggered. Tubocurarine paralyzes the striated muscles of the musculoskeletal system and is referred to as a non- depolarizing muscle relaxant.
Occurrence
Tubocurarine is for example found in Chondrodendron tomentosum and other plants of the genus.
