Tui, Pontevedra

Tui (Spanish Tuy ) is a Spanish border town with Portugal in the south of Galicia Autonomous Region. It forms on the part of Galicia, the main border crossing to Portugal. The border is the river Miño, on the right bank of the city lies.

Tui is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tui - Vigo.

History

When building a highway lanes were of human settlement from the Stone Age ( Lower Palaeolithic ) found.

Attractions

Tui has a picturesque old town, several churches, monasteries and museums such as:

  • Chapel of San Telmo
  • Klarissenkloster
  • Diocesan Museum

Important buildings such as the former municipal theater have expired. Mostly makes the old town but a very neat impression.

Located on the opposite side of the border river Miño - included in the great bastion - the corresponding Portuguese border town of Valença.

Traffic

About the Autovia A-55 and the Autopista AP-9 Tui is linked to the Spanish road network. Furthermore, the Tui is connected with the Spanish railway network.

Twinning

In April 2013, the twinning agreement with the Westphalian city of Versmold was signed. Versmold, with its roughly 21,500 inhabitants, belongs to the district of Gütersloh.
