Tulare County, California

Tulare County is a county located in the Central Valley of the State of California, United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Visalia.

Geography

The County is located just southeast of the geographical center of California and borders clockwise to the counties: Fresno County, Inyo County, Kern County and Kings County.

History

Tulare County was formed from parts of Mariposa County in 1852. Parts of the county were Fresno County 1856 Kern County 1866, Inyo County in 1866, and the Kings County 1893 struck.

Commandante Pedro Fages, the deserters in 1772 pursued, discovered a large lake, which was surrounded by marshland. This he called Los Tules. The roots of Countynamens Tulare are Spanish. Tullin called reeds or cattails or other Riet.

Economy

Tulare County is one of the poorest counties in California, even though the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park is nearby.

The agriculture of the county is considered to be most productive in the whole United States according to the Fresno County. It is also one of the agriculturally productive regions of the world. A special portion takes on a milk production. The annual World Ag Expo, the largest agricultural fair in the world takes place in the second week of February here.

According to the census of 2000, there were 368 021 people in Tulare County. There were 110 385 households and 87 093 families. The population density was 29 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 58.08 % White, 1.59 % African American, 1.56 % Native American, 3.27 % Asian, 0.11 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 30.79 % from other races groups; 4.60% were descended from two or more races. 50.77 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 110 385 households out of which 44.90 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.10 % were married couples living together, 14.50% had a female householder with no husband. 21.10% were non-families. 17.10% of all households and 7.70 % had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.28 and the average family size was 3.67 persons.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 33.80 % under the age of 18, 10.60 % from 18 to 24, 27.60% from 25 to 44 years, 18.20% between 45 and 64 years and 9.80% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 100.00 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.70 males.

The median income for a household was $ 33,983, and the median income for a family was $ 36,297. Males had a median income of $ 30,892, women $ 24,589. The per capita income was $ 14,006. 23.90 % percent of the population and 18.80% of families are below the poverty line. 32.60 % of those under age 18 and 10.50% were 65 years or older.
