Tulip Revolution

Under the so-called Tulip Revolution refers to the mass uprising in Kyrgyzstan in March 2005. Example, the headline of the Moscow newspaper Izvestia " The Tulip Revolution in Kyrgyzstan has begun."

The name comes from a symbol of the opposition, the mountain tulip. The stated goal was the resignation of President Askar Akayev. It is thus in line with the Rose Revolution in Georgia and the Orange Revolution in Ukraine, but also violent in contrast to these.

Together, however, is that here the opposition rebelled against rigged elections. Akayev probably manipulated the parliamentary elections in early March, to secure his retention of power.
