Tulipa chrysantha var clusiana

The ladies tulip ( Tulipa clusiana ) is a species of the genus of tulips ( Tulipa) in the lily family ( Liliaceae ).

Features

The ladies' tulip grows as a perennial, herbaceous plant, the plant height usually 20 to 25 (5 to 40) achieved centimeters. This Geophyt forms onions as outlasting. The inside of the bulb casing is soft and curly hairy and bristly top of the base, the hairs emerge from the top. The rare only two, usually three to five leaves are blue-green colored, sharply creased and measure up to 25 × 1 (up to 2 ) inches.

The two × three stamens have hairless black stamens and purple to yellow brown colored dust bag.

The flowering period is in April.

Occurrence

The ladies Tulip occurs at altitudes 800-2850 m in the north-west Himalayas, Kashmir, Chitral, northern Afghanistan and eastern Iran. In Southwestern Europe, Italy, Greece and western Turkey this species was naturalized.

System

The ladies Tulip is very rich in form, there have been described several varieties:

  • Tulipa clusiana DC. var clusiana: The top of the bloom is white, the inner are bespitzt. The basal spot and the anthers are stained deep purple.
  • Tulipa chrysantha var clusiana ( ADHall ) Sealy: There are 1-3 flowers available. The bloom is yellow, the underside of the outer is mostly red or brown colored purple. The anthers are yellow.
  • Tulipa clusiana var stellata ( Hook. ) Rule: The bloom is white, her bottom is colored purple-pink. The basal spot and the stamens are yellow.

Tulipa aitchisonii ADHall is today attributed Tulipa clusiana. It is with her at a occurring in the wetter monsoon area high mountain form, which reaches stature heights of 3 to 15 centimeters and up to three flowers formed.

Use

The ladies Tulip is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens and discounts. It is in culture at least since 1606.
