Drawing of the garden tulip ( Tulipa gesneriana ) from the Codex Gottorfer by Hans- Holtz Simon Becker

The garden tulip ( Tulipa gesneriana ) is a species of the genus of tulips ( Tulipa) in the lily family ( Liliaceae ). This type is an ancient Persian culture plant whose exact origin is unclear. Maybe it comes from Tulipa Tulipa armena or schrenkii.

Features

The Garden tulip is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches the plant height of 10 to 70 centimeters. This Geophyt forms onions as outlasting. The onion shell is inside glabrous or only has a few hairs at the tip. The plant forms no foothills. The leaves are blue-green and usually not wavy. The stem leaves are often narrower than the vegetative plant leaves, which have a width of more than 1.5 to 2 centimeters. The stem is (10 ) 30 to 70 inches long, bare and rare fine fluffy.

The flowers appear singly on the stems. They are broad at the base napfig. The bracts are colored differently from red, purple, black, purple and yellow to white. Virus Diseased plants have flamed flowers. Furthermore, the bracts rounded, emarginate, obtuse or acute, and from 4 to 8.2 inches long. The stamens are purple or yellow.

Flowering period, depending on the variety and location group, from early April to late May.

Use

The Garden Tulip is used widely as an ornamental plant in discounts, rebates and summer perennial borders and as a cut flower.
