Tulipwood

Bahia Rosewood is a yellowish to pink colored, red -grained wood that is characterized by rose-like fragrance. It is traditionally traded under the French name bois de rose.

The wood is used in furniture construction, used for luxurious small objects such as humidors and for the manufacture of musical instruments. It is very hard and dense, so it can be polished outstanding.

Its relatively high price rarely allowed to be used as solid wood; it is used for profiles, veneered surfaces and inlays. In the guitar back and sides are made instead of maple or rosewood rosewood sometimes; Baroque recorders are often made of rosewood.

It is now known that this wood comes from the subtropical deciduous tree species of the genus Dalbergia decipularis the Dalbergien ( Dalbergia ). This species is native only in Brazil. In old books we find the misconception that this wood of Dalbergia frutescens (synonym Dalbergia variabilis ) are supplied.

The genus of Dalbergien ( Dalbergia ) also provides a large part of the woods that come on the market under the name of rosewood.
