Tullamarine, Victoria

Tullamarine is a suburb of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. According to the 2006 census it had 6541 inhabitants it is 17 km outside the city center and is part of the municipality of Hume City.

The name probably goes back to the Aboriginal Tullamareena. The area is dominated by new housing estates and light industry. Important landmark in the mainly flat topography, which is exposed to the hot northerly winds of Melbourne's summer, is the nearby airport. The suburb developed only since the 1970s, when falling land prices because of the proximity to the airport. The architecture is mostly appropriate.
