Tulsa 66ers

The Tulsa 66ers are an American basketball team who play in the NBA Development League and are located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

History

The 66ers are named after the famous Route 66 as it passes through Tulsa and because they formerly played an important economic role. The team has an affiliated club in the NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder. Until the 2005/06 season, the team had the name of Asheville Altitude and played in the Asheville Civic Center in Asheville, North Carolina, where they won two D -League championships. The name of the team had to do with the Blue Ridge Mountains. Asheville Altitude was one of the founding teams of the NBA Development League.

On 31 July 2008, the 66ers announced that Clayton Bennett of the Professional Basketball Club LLC (owner of the Oklahoma City Thunder ) had agreed to buy the 66ers. In order for the team was the third after the Los Angeles D- Fenders and the Austin Toros, which is part of an NBA team. Under the terms of this Agreement, the 66ers are the farm team of Thunder and of any other team. The Milwaukee Bucks had the 66ers as a farm team, have a farm team but now the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

In the 2010/11 season the team was 14 games unbeaten and placed so that a new record, and then subject to 106:109 in the 15th game on January 30, 2011, adopted the Maine Red Claws.
