Tuman bay II

Tuman Bay ( † April 14, 1517 ) was from 1516 to 1517, the last Mamluk Sultan of Egypt.

Tuman Bay was under Sultan al - Ghuri (1501-1517) Viceroy of Egypt, and therefore had to stay in Cairo during the campaign of al - Ghuri. After the defeat of the Mamluks at Marj Dabic before Aleppo in 1516 against the Ottomans, he was still proclaimed in October for the Sultan. The Mamlukenemire who had refused to support al - Ghuri, now advocated a continuation of the war and refused all negotiations, although the Ottoman Sultan Selim I. offered peace against the recognition of Ottoman suzerainty.

So the Ottomans moved after the occupation of Syria in January 1517 in Egypt and defeated the Mamluk on 23 January at Raydaniyya before Cairo. The city was subsequently conquered in violent street fights of the Ottomans. After another defeat at Giza Tuman Bay fell into Ottoman captivity and was executed on 14 April 1517. This meant the end of the Mamlukenreiches, even if the influence of the Mamluks in Egypt still lasted until the early 19th century.
