Geography

Source and course

The Tumbach - in dialect: Down Bach - rises about 2 km southeast of the center of Heubach in Ostalb. It arises at the deer fountain, immediately above the climbing road L 1162 Heubach Bartholomew at the Nordserpentine in the woods blade Won Trögteich to about 640 m above sea level. NN. From here it runs just south-west, west to the valley, and soon reached after less than 400 meters, the corridor boundary. After about twice this distance he hears from the right from the lower Nähertal its first tributary, a small Kerbtalbach, in the course is the best source stream already at the bottom foot of the slope. About 200 yards further terminates then left his biggest inflow from the vicious blade that has dug a longer and deeper valley, to slightly below 530 m above sea level. NN. This watercourse is also sometimes regarded as the origin of Tumbach. On his remaining strong kilometers of the creek turns more and more to the northeast, takes from the right nor the discharge of some right close to him lying sources, and then opens to 481.2 m above sea level. NN from the right in the Beuren Bach, who thus becomes the Klotzbach, about a kilometer south-southwest of the city center of Heubach and between the spur of Scheuelbergs in the West, the nails mountain in the south and the north-western foothills Riedköpfle the high mountain in the East.

Catchment area

The Tumbach drained part of the Albtrauf of about 4.0 sq. km south of Heubach. The watershed runs from the mouth of the east Riedköpfle up to the middle of the high mountain, then the connecting ridge to the head of the Heidenburrens and continue almost to the forest path between the fairground and the transmitter mast on the Utzenberg. Beyond drained here, from the Riedköpfle, the deer creek for Klotzbach. Then the boundary of the watershed bends to the south and runs on the Alb plateau on the southern Langenfeld, the evening wood and the L 1162 away up to the Baron mountain. Eastern competitor is the volume here. From here on, now the watershed of the Tumbachs for less than two kilometers falls through the bumming westward along with the main European watershed between the Rhine and Danube; on the karstified Alb plateau there is beyond only 9 km further south at Söhnstetten again a small watercourse. Before Betzenhau the watershed then turns to the northwest and runs on the narrow plateau of the hill nails to the spur, and from there back down to the estuary. Otherworldly competitor here is the slightly longer left upper reaches of the block Beuren Bach Bach, Griesbach top of the upper floors.

On the Alb plateau in the eastern bumming and thus already near the southern watershed is located in the catchment area to a Hülbe with a halbkilometrigen, non-persistent inflow from the west. Meanwhile, more dry Talung pulls against the Tumbach direction to the southeast of the main watershed of time. So the more relevant on the Swabian Alb gap conductor drain here probably in the opposite direction.

At least three quarters of the watershed is forested. Open terrain is found only on the valley floor and the bottom foot of the slope and on the plateau in a strip along the L 1162nd

The Tumbach runs entirely on Heubach area and its catchment area is almost entirely within the boundaries of the city. A very small corner of it in the southeast part of Bartholomew and an even smaller in the southwest district of Barg Auer of Schwäbisch Gmünd.

The settlement is limited to the Lodge, a detached house adjacent to the L 1162, which climbs the Albhöhe at its northeastern slope over the entire length of the valley.

Origin of Tumbachs on deer fountain in Trögteich.

  • Good stream from the lower Nähertal, of right just before the Tumbachquerung a dirt road in the valley, 0.3 km. Even under a small hairpin bend in the L 1162 to Nähertal into is the best source stream in the barrel.
  • Bach through the Devil's blade, partially considered Tumbach Headwaters, from right below the five sheep at Linden House at 526.9 m above sea level. NN, 0,5 km.
  • Several sources at the bottom right foot of the slope, between dirt road ford and mouth

Confluence of Tumbachs from the right with the Beuren Bach is 2.2 km away run about a kilometer south-southwest of Heubach for Klotzbach.
