Tumbi

The Tumbi, Punjabi ਤੂੰਬੀ Tumbi, also Thumbi; is a North Indian plucked string instrument with a simple round sound body, which is generally produced from a pumpkin. This one-stringed lute spit initially used in the traditional music of the Punjab on the type of Ektara is often used together with the double skin drum Dhol in the Bhangramusik.

Tumbi is the feminine form of the word tumba that designates consisting of a gourd resonator at Indian stringed instruments. Derived thereof in the folk music of Uttar Pradesh is also called a plucking drum tumba.
