Tumble finishing

Tumbled Stones or Baroque stones are gemstones that are processed in a rotating drum or vibrating vessels for processing the surface with abrasive or polishing agent (for example, aluminum oxide).

The grinding process takes place in several steps with finer and finer abrasives. The stones rub against each other and the abrasive here, whereby edges and rough surfaces in this way gradually ground and polished in the last grinding operation. The production time per batch is in the drum depending on the desired quality of about two to five weeks. Vibration drums ( Spirators ) are faster by about 2 /3, but it can only handle smaller stones.

Unlike other types of grinding as Cabochon Smooth or ball shape tumbled gemstones is left to chance, since the raw stones are neither preformed nor is predictable, rub against each other which surfaces during production. Each Tumbled Stone is therefore unique.
