Tummo

Tummo ( Tibetan for " internal heat, inner fire, the / the Grim, raging woman "; sanskrit चण्ड, IAST transliteration candali or Canda ) is the name for an advanced Tantric meditation technique of Vajrayana Buddhism. Physical target and thus the origin of the name of this contemplative practice is the conscious strong increase in body temperature with simultaneous immunization against low ambient temperatures without the aid of external funds. Interior The aim of this mental exercise is the directed energy steering from the inside out to wipe out as negative feelings, thoughts and attitudes by "burning".

Origin

This V.A. Made famous by the Tibetan Buddhist meditation technique is due to the Tibetan master Naropa (* 1016, † 1100). In his Six Yogas of Naropa (also: Six Doctrines of Naropa or the Six Dharmas of Naropa, Tibetan ནཱ་རོ་ཆོས་དྲུག་, Wylie transliteration nA ro chos drug), he documented the technique of " Mystic heat" for the first time in writing and prepared it systematically. He in turn got his skills and knowledge from his teacher Tilopa (* 988, † 1069) in many years hard and challenging mind training numerous practical exercises taught that some also secret teaching lines followed. So tummo to have been handed down orally only to the 10th century of our era. The Tibetan Bon tradition teaches Tummo. Undoubtedly one of the most famous practitioners of Tummo people but was Milarepa (* 1040, † 1123), who enjoys a similar position within a national saint of the Tibetan people. The second part of his full name, Jetsun Milarepa, is derived directly from manufactures to improve this meditation technique: The Repa, a simple cotton robe said to have been for him an all-season adequate clothing.

Technology

The practice of Tummo is due to their extremely powerful, energetic emanation, so their specific development impact, a certain minimum level of meditative ability and spiritual knowledge ahead. This is ensured by the so-called preparatory exercises in Tibetan Buddhism. The attempt to apply the technique to have without proper foundations, according to Stanislav Grof can sometimes lead to serious physical and psychological complications.

According to their historical origins in the Vedic Yoga are the key elements

  • Posture (Sanskrit आसन, IAST transliteration āsana )
  • Gestures (Sanskrit मुद्रा, IAST transliteration mudrā )
  • The mastery of breath (Sanskrit प्राणायाम, IAST transliteration prāṇāyāma )
  • The self -less contemplation (Sanskrit ध्यान, IAST transliteration dhyāna ) and
  • The affirmative Sensualisierung (mainly visual and haptic).

Due to time and content finely tuned interaction of the ingredients in life energy ( sanskrit प्राण, IAST transliteration prāṇa, also Kundalini, Tibetan རླུང་, Wylie transliteration rLung, Chinese Qi ) through the energy channels (Sanskrit नाडी, IAST transliteration Nadi, Tibetan རྩ་, Wylie transliteration rTsa ) to defined main energy centers (Sanskrit चक्र, IAST transliteration cakra, Tibetan ཁོར་ལོ་, Wylie transliteration khor lo ) so concentrated that an evoked catharsis to increase the body temperature results.

Research

For scientific investigation, several studies have been conducted. ( Benson et al, 1982;. Cromie, 2002; Richard Davidson, 2006 ). Already in the first experiments in Dharamsala, India, an increase in temperature in the fingers of the subjects could be measured by up to 8.3 ° C due to the use of Tummo technique. From a physiological point of view there is a causal link between the performance of technology and the observable changes in connection therewith can be brought biological state variables is justified, inter alia, with an awareness of the perception within the physical processes and then at least partially, conscious intervention on the same (see Psychosomatics, biofeedback).
