Tunau is on the edge of the meadow valley in the Black Forest Nature Park in 580-1163 meters above sea level.
Neighboring communities
The municipality is bordered to the north by Utzenfeld and is in the east, south and west surrounded by the territory of the town of Schönau im Schwarzwald.

The municipality includes the village Tunau Tunau, the hamlet Bisch Matt and the tines Michelrütte.
History
Tunau was first documented in 1320. At this time the village belonged to the monastery of St. Blaise, which exploited the silver deposits here.

Educational institutions
In Tunau there is no kindergarten or school. Primary and secondary students attend school in nearby Schönau im Schwarzwald, there is also a gymnasium. The nearest secondary school is located in Zell in the meadow valley.
