Tung Chung Line

The Tung Chung Line (Chinese东涌 线/东涌 线, Pinyin Dongchong Xian, Jyutping dung1 cung1 sin3 ) is a line of Mass Transit Railway (MTR ) in Hong Kong. It leads from the station Hong Kong in Central and Western District on West Kowloon and the New Territories to the southwestern residential area Tung Chung on Lantau Island. They travel on, among other things, the Tsing Ma Bridge, the ninth longest suspension bridge in the world.

The 34.8 km long line runs largely parallel to the Airport Express, but has its own tracks and platforms; it can also be operated more intermediate stations. Here the usual subway cars are used and not generous equipped version of the Airport line. For these reasons, no surcharge is levied.

The opening took place on 21 June 1998, Chief Executive Tung Chee- hwa, just two weeks before the Airport Express. On 16 December 2003, the station Nam Cheong followed where an interchange with West Rail link of the Kowloon - Canton Railway is.

At the terminus in Tung Chung runs the Ngong Ping 360 Ngong Ping to the mountain. There are the Buddhist Po Lin Monastery and the 34 meter high statue Tian Tan Buddha.
