History

The place name has a settlers named Tunti or Tunto out, whose name has been handed down since about 770, and the place with varying spellings gave the name Tuntenhausen later than the 13th century. The ending " -sen " denotes a fortified residence or a castle.

The pilgrimage Tuntenhausen there since 1441, the year of the first documented a miraculous. Since then Tuntenhausen 's goal of pilgrims from all parts of Old Bavaria and Tyrol. The parishes Tuntenhausen and Schönau were in the middle of the 13th century, the Augustinian Canons Beyharting incorporated. The monastery was a separate Hofmark and could exercise certain rights. Parent legal organizations were the district courts Rosenheim, char and Swabia ( Markt Schwaben). After the secularization of 1803 created administrative units. The community Tuntenhausen was extended on 1 May 1978 at the course of municipal reform to help communities Beyharting and Hohenthann as well as the larger part of the community Lampferding.

The sanctuary is also known for the annual twice held meeting of the Catholic Men's Association Tuntenhausen to come to see the leading Bavarian politician of the CSU.
