Tunxdorf is a village on the river Ems and a district of the city of Papenburg in Emsland district, in Lower Saxony.

Location

Tunxdorf is located in the northwest city of Papenburg, north of the district ash village and west of the district nominal village. The nature reserve around the old Emsarm called " Tunxdorfer loop ".

History

The village Tunxdorf was first mentioned in the 8th century in documents (as Tunglasthorpe ). It is believed that Tunxdorf is the origin of the family of Thungestorp, from a Thiedbold of Thungestorp is detected in 1150 in a document. But no later than the 15th century, the noble seat seems to have been abandoned.

On 1 January 1973 Tunxdorf was incorporated into the city of Papenburg.
