Tuomas Holopainen

Tuomas Lauri Johannes Holopainen ( born December 25, 1976 in Kitee ) is keyboard player, main songwriter and founding member of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish.

Biography

Since the age of eight plays piano Holopainen, since his ninth clarinet. After school he studied those two instruments and tenor saxophone and music theory at a music school. In September 1992, he was taken as an exchange student in Kansas City for a concert of Metallica and Guns N 'Roses, which had a strong influence on his musical career. During this time he played in the bands Dark Woods My Betrothed and Nattvindens ridge. However, he wanted to form their own band because he wanted to write music itself and contribute. This idea represents the birth of Nightwish in the summer of 1996 dar. the campfire Emppu Vuorinen, and he asked Tarja Turunen, whether they wanted to participate in this time still purely acoustic project. After he heard the quality of Tarja's operatic voice, Holopainen decided to convert Nightwish into a metal band.

Holopainen has worked alongside Nightwish in different bands, currently in the midst of the Gothic metal band For My Pain ... and the band of Timo Rautiainen. He also occasionally works with other bands together ( as on the album Love and Other Disasters by Sonic Syndicate ).

He has signed an endorsement contract with the Japanese keyboard manufacturer Korg.

In the spring of 2014 Holopainen want the solo album Music Inspired By The Life And Times Of Scrooge - publish Written And Produced By Tuomas Holopainen, which at the Comic Book Uncle Scrooge - is ajar His life, his billions of Don Rosa.

Style

Holopainen Nightwish style is distinguished by the frequent use of string samples significantly from the style of other keyboardist in the metal. Fast, rhythmic chord repetitions, dense arrangement and distinctive topics are strongly reminiscent of film music, a typical stylistic imprint of Symphonic Metal. Holopainen himself gives the film music composer Hans Zimmer and Vangelis as musical role models.
