Tupua Tamasese Meaʻole

Tupua Tamasese Meaole, CBE (* June 3, 1905, † April 5, 1963 ) was Tupua Tamasese 1929 to 1963, a Samoan Paramount chief. He held the office of O le Ao o le Malo (Head of State of Samoa) together with Malietoa Tanumafili II from 1962 until his death the following year.

Life and career

He was born in 1905 as son of Tupua Tamasese Titimaea, whom he succeeded in 1929.

Under the New Zealand Trusteeship of Samoa (1914-1962) he was one of two Fautuas (consultant) of the New Zealand administration, in conjunction with Malietoa Tanumafili II.

He was one of the authors of the Constitution of Samoa after independence.

He was honored with a CBE ( Commander of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire ).

He was followed by Tupua Tamasese Lealofi -o- A'ana IV (1922-1983) as Tupua Tamasese after, which in turn followed Meaoles son, Tupua Tamasese Efi Tupuola Taisi Tufuga, the former Prime Minister and current O le Ao o le Malo.
